Lot of 2 cabinet cards, including: anonymous photograph of a Kiowa warrior, ca 1870s; and photograph of a member of the Improved Order of Red Men (IORM), wearing early Southwest bandolier, produced by the Ames Studio, Lynn. The mount is extra thick with an embossed border. The Kiowa is in presumed ceremonial gear, since his moccasins have "tinklers" on the vamps. Dressed in his best for the photographer. The Improved Order of Red Men traces its origin to the Sons of Liberty and other secret organizations before the Revolutionary War. They first came to general attention at the Boston Tea Party. It is the oldest fraternal organization of North American origin (free masons originated in Europe). Condition: Kiowa mount trimmed along left side (almost as if it is half of a boudoir card). Minor surface soil, especially on verso, of IORM card.
