The first a studio portrait of Black Coyote with lengthy period inked identification on verso that reads: "Black Coyote - Arappahoe Chief - Also Chief of Ind. Police. Good man - A Christian man. Often delivers an oration to white people by means of an interpreter. Has one girl attending school at Darlington, who is quite intelligent and in a speech, which I heard him deliver to a vast audience, he said he was glad his little girl was learning the ways of the white People." Toning to image and mount, with some corner and edge wear to mount. Second cabinet card, a studio portrait of Sioux Chief American Horse wearing a feathered headdress, posed with a woman and young child. Faint penciled identification on verso reads: "American Horse Sioux Chief visiting from Pine Ridge Agency So. Dakota with Cheyenne woman (his hostess (?)) and her child." Uneven toning to print (top right corner of print a bit darker compared to rest of print). Light staining visible on mount. Few light surface abrasions in mount.
