Winchester Model 70 Standard Super Grade bolt action rifle in rare .300 Savage caliber made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1949. Blued Winchester Proof Steel barrel 24" barrel marked ".300 Savage" with hooded ramp front sight and 22G rear adjustable sight. Barrel underside marked "300 SAV" and correctly dated "46" which is the only production date for this caliber. Caliber marking on top does not have "teardrop" but has straight line? Black matted finish Type III receiver with both bridges factory drilled for scope mounting. Bolt has correct solid bolt handle and is electropenciled with serial number "128799" which matches gun and also has correct three-position safety. Gun has correct checkered walnut low comb pistol grip stock with Winchester logo grip cap and European style cheekpiece, black forend tip, quick detachable sling swivel mounts (missing swivels), and steel checkered Widow's Peak buttplate. Gun is possibly a special order or a parts clean-up. CONDITION: 90% blue with edge wear and light handling marks on floorplate. 90% original varnish with sharp checkering. Good bore and mechanics. A scarce rifle.
