Honda’s road/trail styled MB/MT 50s arrived in 1979 and were sold in the UK as ‘Sixteener Specials’ suitable for 16-year-old learners. This meant that they were restricted to a maximum speed of – nominally – 30mph, whereas in foreign markets the MB-5 roadster was good for 60-plus. Mind you, removing the inlet tract restrictor swiftly restored the lost horsepower. Attractively styled and built to Honda’s traditionally high standard, the MB-5 (there was also an 80cc version) was unusual for a small-capacity two-stroke in employing a balancer shaft within the engine. Forming part of the Museum collection for many years, this original MB-5 is offered with Austrian Typenschein.
