Kreidler AG, a Stuttgart-based major producer of high-tech alloys to the German car industry, began lightweight 50cc motorcycle production in 1951, at one stage producing more machines than any other German manufacturer. During the 1980s, they made highly successful racing ‘50’ bikes in collaboration with the Dutch firm of Van Veen, Holland being a major market. The ‘Florett’ (a fencing rapier) was their sporting model, with the RS having a 50cc, five-speed, engine unit producing 6.75 bhp and capable of almost 60mph. Kreidlers were noted for their reliability and with just under 7000 km recorded, this example, in generally good condition, should prove to be an easy restoration of a sporty Kreidler from this increasingly collectable class.
