The final major modifications to BSA’s outstandingly successful ‘Bantam’ range were the enlargement to 175cc in 1957 and the introduction of a four-speed gearbox in 1967 on the D14 model, an addition which bought the ‘Bantam’ into the second half of the 20th century. This example of the D14 has fallen upon hard times in the hands of a previous collector owner who, for some reason, dismantled his machine and removed all of their number plates! Those for the machine have not yet been identified or recovered. Though now re-assembled and in basically sound and complete condition, it may well serve as a source of BSA ‘Bantam’ spares rather than a rebuild. A re-builder of the machine will find that an age-related plate can, of course, be obtained by the usual method.
