Introduced in 1949, BSA's rugged 650 twin had undergone considerable development by the end of the succeeding decade. On the cycle parts front, the introduction of a swinging-arm frame in 1954 had resulted in the original bolt-up gearbox's replacement by a conventional separate item, while the engine had benefited from numerous improvements including an increase in compression ratio for 1958 and the standardisation of the sports models' high-lift camshaft for 1959. Finished in red/silver and boasting Gold-Star-type silencers, this superbly presented example is offered fresh from a restoration undertaken in 2002, only requiring wiring and commissioning to finish it off. The renovation included a full mechanical rebuild, new crankshaft, main bearings, pistons, Spitfire camshaft, overhauled magneto, new fork stanchions, wheels rebuilt with stainless-steel spokes and numerous stainless fastenings. Offered with old-style logbook.
