by Thomas Rowley and others, in the Fifteenth Century, first edition, second issue with cancelled c4 advertisement, engraved plate, errata leaf at end, additional leaves bound at end (mostly blank but with one or two verses in manuscript), light spotting and soiling, short marginal tear to title, contemporary calf, rebacked, [Rothschild 589], T.Payne & Son, 1777; another edition, additional engraved vignette title and plate, contemporary ink inscription at head of engraved title, offsetting to letterpress title, later calf-backed marbled boards, [Rothschild 590], Cambridge, B.Flower, 1794; Miscellanies in Prose and Verse, first edition, lacking half-title, engraved frontispiece (often missing) and plate, advertisement leaf at end, lightly water-stained, contemporary calf, joints split, Fielding & Walker, 1778, 8vo (3) *** The first was a celebrated literary hoax written by the young Chatterton, who later committed suicide aged seventeen. The second was the first edition to contain Coleridge's Monody on the Death of Chatterton, his second appearance in print.
