WILLIAM HEINEMANN, 1962 8vo, first edition, presentation copy inscribed by the author to his friend Bernard Brown ("To Bernard | from | John x | April 1962 | x Anthony Burgess"), first issue in black cloth, spine lettered in silver, dust-jacket, jacket slightly browned with a few tears at head and base of the spine and other edges and corners Presentation copies of A Clockwork Orange inscribed near the time of publication are uncommon. Bernard Brown was a close schoolboy friend of the author's at Xaverian College, the grammar school in Manchester, and also subsequently at Manchester University, which they both attended.
