Small 4° (174 x 130mm.). Engraved frontispiece, portrait, title within woodcut border, initials and headpieces, illustrations, including the 3 extra woodcut illustrations inserted between pp. 122-123, publisher's "advertisement" leaf at the end. ("The Intent of the Frontispiece" leaf laid down, portrait almost certainly a later facsimile, frontispiece, title and several leaves cropped, occasional spotting and staining, a few short tears). Late 19th-century dark blue crushed morocco gilt by Hammond, spine gilt in compartments, g.e. (Extremities very lightly rubbed). Provenance : Muriel Forteviot (bookplate); Frederick R. Jones (small label on front pastedown); ?K. L. Lloyd (old inscription and marginalia on verso of final leaf). Second edition. Lowndes 311: "Best edition ..."; Wing B5461.
