Lot of 4, including couriers for Buffalo Bill's Wild West performances in 1897 and 1899. Accompanied by two Puck magazine cartoons. Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World. Buffalo, NY: Courier Lithographic Company, 1897. 6pp, 6.875 x 10.25 in. Printed in advance of the performance in Syracuse, NY on July 22, 1897. Cover artwork features portraits of Buffalo Bill Cody and Nate Salsbury, with inside pages promoting key Wild West acts, such as "Miss Annie Oakley - Johnny Baker in feats of marksmanship," a "Detachment of United States Cavalry," and "The Only Herd of Buffalo on Exhibition, Animals Now More Rare Than Elephants." Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World. Buffalo, NY: Courier Lithographic Company, 1899. 14pp, 9 x 12 in. Printed in advance of the performance in Allentown, PA on August 3, 1899. Inside pages describe important features of the show, with vignetted illustrations including Buffalo Bill shooting from horseback, a group of Indians attacking a stage coach, and the opening street cavalcade. Also with portraits of "distinguished visitors" to the Wild West Show, including Presidents Arthur, Cleveland, Grant, Harrison, and McKinley, along with Pope Leo XIII, Queen Victoria, and Kaiser Wilhelm. Lot completed by two Puck cartoons relating to the Wild West, including a comic portrayal of Buffalo Bill and Sioux Chief Red Shirt (New York, NY: Keppler & Schwarzmann, May 25, 1887. Vol. 21, No. 533. 9.75 x 13.25 in.) and an allegorical France bestowing her favor on Buffalo Bill, in anticipation of the 1889 Wild West season in Paris (New York, NY: Keppler & Schwarzmann, June 19, 1889. Vol. 25, No. 641. 9.75 x 13.25 in.). Condition: All with toning and minor wear to edges. 1899 Courier with light staining and small tears along edges, and 1889 Puck cartoon with diagonal tear (approx. 1 in.) to right edge.
