BUCHANAN, JAMES, President . Autograph letter signed ("James Buchanan") as Minister to Great Britain, to Isaac G. McKinley, Wheatland, 13 June 1853. 2 pages, 4to . Fine. BUCHANAN ON AN APPOINTMENT: "I HAD NOTHING MORE TO DO IN PROCURING IT THAN THE MAN IN THE MOON" Buchanan vociferously explains his efforts to secure an appointment: "...In regard to yourself, beginning, middle & end I pressed your appointment with all the influence I could exert.
