BRUSSELS 1558 -- [ Pompa funebris Caroli V ]. The Hague: Hendrik Hondius 1619. Oblong 2 o (258 x 350 mm). 37 engraved plates (mostly 3 or 4 plates joined together) by JOHANNES AND LUCAS DOETECUM after JEROME COCK. (Some plates wrinkled or torn.) Later calf, spine gilt, upper cover stamped in gilt "Pompa funebris Carolo V" (some rubbing and wear). This sumptuous series of engravings depicting the funeral procession of the Holy Roman Emperor CHARLES V (1500-1558) was first published in Antwerp by Plantin in 1559. This reissue by Hondius has 5 additional plates and includes the large folding plate of a symbolic vessel, as well as the additional plates of a grotesque Dance of Death.
