II, allegorical woodcut on II:S3r, 239 woodcuts, mostly by Hans Weiditz Dioscorides: printer's device on title, historiated initials, 595 woodcuts. Brunfels: Adams B-2924 (vol. I-II); Hunt 30 (a mixed edition); Nissen BBI 257 IB, IIA and III; Stafleu & Cowan TL2 852, 853, 854; Dioscorides: Adams D-663; Nissen BBI 496. The third volume of Brunfels's great herbal was published posthumously. It contains 104 woodcuts, of which some but not all are by Weiditz. Provenance : Georg Seefried(?), inscription dated 1555 on Dioscorides title -- numerous annotations, particularly in vol. III of Brunfels and in Dioscorides -- Edward Sanford Burgess, bookplate -- Kenneth K. Mackenzie; Horticultural Society of New York, bookplate.
