Strassburg: Johann Schott, 1537; 1536; 1536 (appendix dated 1539). 3 parts in one volume, folio, 304 x 194mm, later vellum, leather spine label, red edges, the Appendix is bound at the end, title cropped and mounted, some spotting, browning. 3 woodcut borders, 242 woodcuts, many by Hans Weiditz Adams B-2925; Hunt 30; Nissen BBI 257 IB, IIB, III; Stafleu & Cowan TL2 852-854. As Hunt has pointed out, the publishing history of the three parts of Brunfels's Herbal in their various editions remains to be clarified. The present copy consists of the third edition of vol. I, the second edition of vol. II and the first edition of vol. III issued with the first general title, dated 1537, but with the appendix dated 1539. Hence most authorities agree that the proper date assigned to the collected edition is 1539. Provenance : a few contemporary marginal annotations -- Kenneth K.
