Broadside Poem.- The Old Pack, 1f. with horizontal transverse central fold, spotting and even browning, a few nicks and faint creases, central hole with insignificant loss to text, hole patched on reverse, also two small squares of adhesive tape to reverse, [Foxon O119], 4to, [1710]. ⁂A Tory satire on the pursuit in both the media and the courts of clergyman Henry Sacheverell (1674-1724). Sacheverell gave a full-bloodied 5th November Sermon at St Paul's in 1709 in which he raged against all whom he saw as threatening the English church and state; he offended Whig opinion such that he was impeached at the Bar of the House of Commons; during his trial in the spring of 1710 Tory rioters ran amuck in London: in the following months rioting occurred sporadically across the country. This variant comprising 12 stanzas: the second line of the the first stanza ends with a semi-colon, the third line ends with a comma: the ninth stanza begins "There's Woolf...". Of this variant, ESTC lists three copies: 2 in the Houghton, 1 at the British Library.
