31" curved fully engraved blade, forward half has a seated figure of Britannia,Latin motto "NIL DESPERANDUM TEUCRO DUCE ET AUSPICE TEUCRO" ("There is nothing to despair with Teucer as your leader and Teucer to protect you." - Horace) and floral elements, continuing toward the ricasso with military trophies and floral motifs, royal crest, allegorical classical goddess figure holding thistles, and the Scots Guards regimental insignia, all highlighted in gilt with very faint traces of a blue panel. Hilt has gilded brass D-guard richly embossed in floral patterns with, an oak leaf langet, and a lion's head pommel. Grip of deeply ribbed ivory wrapped in braided wire. The sword is mounted in a 42.5" x 13.5" contemporary shadow box with gold leaf carved frame and sky blue velvet lining. The scabbard is not present. A fine weapon unquestionably once the property of a senior officer. Condition: Blade has overall gray age spotting and a few areas of light surface oxidation. The grip has a crack along the base and a large chip near the pommel is just visible on the reverse. Retains much of the gilt finish on the hilt and blade engraving. The reverse cannot be viewed in the shadow box so an accurate assessment that side's condition cannot be made.
