Virtue Date: 1897 Description: viii, 331 + v ad pp. Illustrated from numerous photographs and engravings throughout. (4to) 12¾x9½, original decorative green cloth with spine and front cover stamped in brown and black, lettered in gilt, dark brown endpapers. First Trade Edition. An account of 54 British golf courses, including Pau, Biaritz and Cannes, this is one of the more elaborate books of the period. It also serves as an interesting commentary on the styles of clubhouses built at that time in England and Scotland. Originally issued the previous year in a limited edition of 250 copies in wrappers. Donovan & Murdoch 2950; Murdoch 385. Lot Amendments Condition: Mild soiling and scattered faint stains, a few bubbling spots, small rubs, ends and corners a bit bumped; hinges tender, light foxing; else a clean and bright copy, near fine.
