Beschreibung:

Albumen photograph, approx. 4.375 x 6.125 in., mounted, 5.125 x 7 in., featuring Frederick Arthur Bridgman sitting in front of a large wooden staircase and holding a paintbrush and palette. Ink inscription on mount reads "To Rev: A. K. Teele / friendly souvenir / F. A. Bridgman / 1897." Frederick Arthur Bridgman (1857-1928) studied at the Brooklyn Art Association and the National Academy of Design before venturing to Paris and becoming heavily influenced by French academic painter Jean-Léon Gérôme Sometime between 1872-1874 Bridgman made his first visit to North Africa, where he became inspired by the scenery and culture, which would be heavily featured in some of his most famous works. For example, one of his most important pieces, The funeral rites of a mummy on the Nile, was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1877 and the Royal Academy of Arts in 1881. Condition: Photograph in good condition, with some toning and one notable abrasion at upper center, which appears to have been covered by ink. Mount edges with light discoloration and light wear (some paper loss to bottom right corner of mount).
