A very rare gilt brass twin barrel two-day marine chronometer in mahogany box Signed Breguet et Fils, No. 4858, sold on 5 September 1834 by M. Ducom, Breguet’s agent in Bordeaux, for the sum of 2,000 francs MOVEMENT: manual, full plate, twin going barrels, half-moon-shaped platform, spring-footed Earnshaw-type detent escapement, bimetallic two-arm compensation balance, free sprung polished steel helical balance spring DIAL: silvered matte, small chapter ring with Roman hour and Arabic 10-minute numerals, symmetrical subsidiary seconds below, blued steel hands CASE: gilt brass bowl with threaded bezel, suspended brass gimbal ring with chamfered top, two-tier solid mahogany box, brass handles and fittings, 96 mm. diam.; box: 21 cm. wide & 19 cm. high SIGNED: signed and numbered on the dial, movement numbered ACCOMPANIED BY: Breguet double-ended brass ratched key numbered 4858
