Brahms, Johannes. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED ("J BRAHMS"), UNPUBLISHED to an unidentified lady ("Sehr geehrtes Fräulein"), apologizing for the fact that, for various reasons, he was unable to take up her invitation, and reporting that, after a very busy summer, he has now found a peaceful holiday lodging at Rüschlikon on Lake Zurich, which he intends to make the most of; Brahms explains that, after the Zurich Music Festival, he has many travel commitments and probably it is better that he does not disappoint her twice, asking her to extend his greetings to Herr Rater ("...Der Sommer war für mich der unruhigste u[nd] wenn ich jetzt wohl ein ruhigeres Absteigequartier (in Rüschlikon am Zürcher See) gefunden habe--so werde ich es doch wenig geniessen...."), 2 pages, 8vo (c.23 x 14.5cms), printed stationery with an engraved green monogram, [Rüschlikon, Lake Zurich], July 1874, small hole slightly affecting one letter, together with a cabinet-style photograph of Brahms, (c.16.5 x 11cms), by C.
