SIGNED by Rawlins in initials ("F.I.R."), presumably his copy with related articles laid in and the one-page AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT, SIGNED, OF BRAGG'S PREFACE to this book tipped to the front free endpaper with Bragg's accompanying ALS to Rawlins, Watlands, August 15 1940 tipped to the inside front cover. "The ether waves which are just too long to have any effect upon the eye, and the X-ray waves which are also invisible because they are far too short, are shown in this book to have a very interesting story of their own to tell about ancient paintings." FIRST EDITION of one of the first texts treating modern scientific techniques of connoisseurship and art restoration. Bragg shared the 1915 Nobel Prize in physics with his son William Lawrence Bragg for their discovery of the X-ray analysis of crystals. CUNNINGHAM, Ebenezer. Relativity and the Electron Theory . BRAGG (signature on title and two pencil diagrams of magnets, pp. 95-7). Bragg co-lectured on Tyndall's discoveries at the Royal Institution in 1927. (3)
