It therefore favourised common species such as chrysanthemum, azalea, rose, begonia, rhododendron, hydrangea, tulip, petunia, clematis, verbena, carnation, hyacinth, narcissus, cyclamen, iris, dahlia, etc. Nevertheless it also gave space to more exotic flowers, especially orchids, which were very popular in the late 19th c.
