Avec plusieurs belles Particularitez qui nont point paru jusques a present, touchant les Bastiments de Marque, Comme la Naturelle Entresuitte des gros et menus Membres de leurs Degrez ou Escaliers. A volume containing the first issue title-page of the Des ordres de colonnes, though with the additional plates S-V which have an imprint date of 1671. These three plates were added after Bosse was removed from his teaching post at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, and contain caustic remarks against his enemies within the Académie. The third part is also in its first state, with only 11 plates of doorways plus the two plates of text; more plates were added for later issues.
Bosse (ca 1604-1676) was an artist and printmaker, renowned now for his works on perspective and engraving. He came into conflict with others in the Académie because of his technical and scientific approach to the composition of artworks. For his earlier work on perspective, see lot 466.
3 parts in one volume, folio (416 x 260 mm), engraved throughout. Part 1: Engraved title-page, engraved frontispiece, engraved dedication to Colbert, 44 engraved plates (some with text). Part II: Engraved title-page, 20 engraved plates (some with text) numbered A-V. Part III: Engraved title-page, 13 engraved plates (some with text). (Small area at foot of first title where a red wax seal has been rubbed away.)
binding: Contemporary speckled calf (428 x 275 mm), spine gilt in compartments. (Binding refurbished at edges and along spine.) 
provenance: Pierre Convers (plausibly the Parisian architect, 1705-1780), inscription at foot of title dated 26 August 1721, and his initials PC in ink on foredge — Mogens Tvede (1897-1977, Danish artist and architect), bookplate. acquisition: Purchased in 2012 from Librairie Paul Jammes, Paris. references: Fowler 57, 60 & 63; cf.
