Dordrecht: Nicolaes de Vries for Geemen van Cappel, 1672. 8° (155 x 95mm.). Etched title, letterpress title in red and black, eight etched plates including five scenes of terrible events, by Romeyn de Hooghe and three portraits. (Slight old stains to lower margins of H1, X1 and X4, two small marginal tears to V2.) Contemporary vellum (rodent damage to base of spine). Provenance: Adrianus Boels (inscriptions dated 1683); Bibliothek Scholasticaat (stamp on verso of fly-leaf). FIRST EDITION of this catalogue of the most remarkable and ghastly world events from circa 1640 to 1672, by the prolific Dutch historian Lambert van den Bosch. The portraits (of Sir Thomas Overbury, Don Ferrante Pallavicino and Francesco Nadasti) are unsigned: the five scenes and the title are signed by de Hooghe. Landwehr Romeyn de Hooghe 18.
