BOREMAN, Thomas. The History and Description of the Famous Cathedral of St. Paul's... [vol II titled:] An Account of the Monument of the Fire of London , London: Thomas Boreman, 1741. 2 volumes, 59 x 44mm., 2 woodcut frontispieces, 16 woodcut plates and one double-sided plate, 3-pages of publisher's advertisements at end of vol. II (occasional browning and spotting, some cropping to pagination in vol. II), contemporary boards (rubbed). Bondy p. 22 (illustrated): "... excessively rare ..."; Gumuchian 4088: "The importance for these tiny volumes for the History of Children's books is evident ... There is no doubt that few ... have survived"; Welsh 1411. Thomas Boreman issued ten of these miniature volumes in which children were taught English History through a series of visits to London's monuments. They form the first series of books produced specifically for children and hence mark the start of children's book publishing in England. (2)
