Modern half green morocco, marbled sides, spine gilt with horse and hound motifs. 11 inches (29 cm). x, 204, [4] pp., with an engraved title (from the 1831 edition, reused here), a wood-engraved plate of a hunt, and 37 fine engraved plates, 13 of horses and 24 of dog breeds. There are attractive wood engraved tailpieces throughout. Light binding wear, contents with text browned as usual with this edition, and some foxing to plates, a few clean marginal tears. A standard sporting work, of which pages 1-52 discuss the horse, and 54-202 dog breeds. There are chapters (each with a plate) on the following breeds: bloodhound, southern hound, stag hound, fox hound, terrier, beagle, harrier, greyhound (English and Italian), lurcher, shpherd's dog, springer, water spaniel, water-dog, spanish pointer, setter, dalmatian, Newfoundland, Greenland, bull dog and mastiff.
