Bookbinding - a mid-Victorian local bookbinder's ledger, compiled by Joseph Burrows, Bookbinder, Nottingham, red-ruled blue paper, prefixed by an index of their clients, the 747 numbered pages of ink MS accounts partially-inscribed, with the date of the work (from 1858 and onwards), the title itself, and the cost of the binding or repair, unfortunately for the bibliographer there is a paucity of bibliographical information, 6 loosely-inserted sheets of manuscript accounts, contemporary half reverse calf over patterned boards, green-stained edges, marbled endpapers, 4to, [1] Please see attached images. The contents are fresh and bright, the binding is generally very good but for some trifling and bumps to the reverse calf; the boards with some scratches and light wear, too. All of the entries are uniform. And judging by the entries for work on behalf of the upholsterers - Messrs. Brown & Smart, over 8 pages only - the binders seem to have inlaid baize and leather surfaces into desks, tables, etc., for them. Without counting I'd estimate that between an eighth and a quarter of the book has been inscribed.
