BLAEU, Willem (1571-1638) and Johannes BLAEU (1596-1673). Novus Atlas, Das ist, Welt-beschreibung, Mit schönen newen außführlichen Land-Taffeln in Kupffer gestochen…Vierter Theil . [Volume IV. Britain]. Amsterdam: Johannes Blaeu, 1648. Volume IV only, 2° (511 x 334mm). Text in German, mounted on guards throughout. Engraved architectural title with letterpress overslip, 58 engraved maps of which 56 are double-page and 2 in text, two engraved views, one of Stonehenge, the other of subterranean caverns near Tilbury, all coloured by contemporary hand, wood engraved text illustrations. (Title repaired and remargined, light spotting throughout and variable marginal dampstaining.) Contemporary vellum panelled in gilt, gilt edges, green silk ties (sometime recased with later endpapers, light soiling, extremities rubbed, gilded arabesques to centre partially worn away, back board slightly warped). Provenance : Johann, King of Saxony (1801-1873, crowned monogram in margin of title) — Saxon State and University Library, Dresden (deaccession stamp).
