Two volumes. 606; 664 pp. (8vo) bound in half leather with marbled paper covered boards and gilt stamped titles on the spines; new endsheets and flyleaves. First Edition. With numerous portraits, illustrations, and maps. His wife drew not from his books, but from his private journals. Burton was an explorer, ethnographer, and man of letters. He was a pilgrim to Mecca and Harar and discovered Lake Tanganyika. He also translated the Arabian Nights. Donated by Ken Sanders Rare Books, Salt Lake City UT.
