Beschreibung:

ROSSETTI, Dante Gabriel. Poems.
Portland: Thomas B. Mosher, 1902. 4to. (8 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches; 215 x 170 mm.) Printed on vellum. Frontispiece portrait of the author. Brown morocco by Zahn, stamp-signed on the turn-in “The Zahn Bindery Memphis,” upper and lower covers with single gilt rule and double rule gilt half-circle enclosing abstract Nouveau motif of sprays and dots, spine in five panels with large center panel decorated in similar motif around a central device of gentle interlocking loops and dots, four raised bands, edges with single gilt rule, top edge gilt and stamped with leaf design, gilt-stamped doublures and marbled endpapers, fore edge untrimmed. Condition: Joints slightly rubbed and tender. number 18 of 25 copies printed on vellum and signed by thomas mosher, here in a fine american noveau binding. One of the notorious Mosher’s more handsome productions, handsomely bound by the little-known Otto Zahn. Zahn emigrated to the United States from Europe sometime in the late 19th century, eventually setting up his bindery in Memphis where he produced distinctly Noveau and often lavish work. Examples of his bindings seem to be rather scarce on the market and even the extensive collection of American and English fine bindings at Princeton University has only a single example.
