Obviously a contemporary German binding. The text under Luther on upper cover reads: "Nosse cupis faciem Lutheri hanc cerne tabellam - si mentem libros consule certus eris" and the text under Melanchton on lower cover: "Forma Philippe tua est sed mens tua nescia pingi est ante bonis et tua scripta docent".
