Bifolium from a large Hebrew Bible codex, with parts of Genesis 18 and 23, on parchment [probably Italy, twelfth century] Bifolium, each leaf with double column of 34 lines of square script with nikkud, small amount of marginalia, recovered from a binding and hence with large losses to gutter between leaves (with losses there to characters at edge of one column), corners also cut away, all now laid down on modern paper, one scribble in Italian and remnants of circular stamp, reverse scrubbed to remove text, overall good and presentable condition, each leaf approximately 400 by 285mm. The parent codex from which these leaves come was written in the same century as the Second and Third Crusades were launched against Saladin, and perhaps during decades when Maimonides (d. 1135) was still alive.
