Athias. - Josef ben Abraham Athias (gest. 1700) entstammte einer sephardischen Familie, ließ sich nach Jugendjahren in Hamburg 1657 in Amsterdam nieder, begründete dort eine Druckerei. Die vorl. Ausgabe wurde von Johann Leusden (Prof. in Leyden) ediert. Die künstlerische und sorgfältige Ausstattung trug Athias die Anerkennung in Form einer goldenen Medaille sowie die Aufnahme in die Zunft der niederländischen Buchdrucker ein. "Tatsächlich gehört diese Bibelausgabe zu den schönsten Erzeugnissen der hebr. Buchdruckerkunst und diente außerdem lange als Muster für Bibleausgaben, namentlich solche christlicher Hebraisten". Athias. - Josef ben Abraham Athias (died 1700) came from a Sephardic family, settled in Amsterdam in 1657, founded a printing company there. This edition was edited by Johann Leusden (Prof. in Leyden). Because of this book, Athias received a golden medal and admission to the guild of Dutch printers.
