(7 3/8 x 5 1/2 in.), nineteenth century vellum over pasteboard, morocco lettering-pieces on spine, light mostly marginal foxing, occasional browning . EDITIO PRINCEPS OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION IN SYRIAC. Darlow & Moule 1438 and 8962; Willems 269. Syriac versions of Revelation, along with four other books of the New Testament, were included in Elias Hutter's polyglot New Testament, published in Nuremberg in 1599, but these were merely translations made by the editor. The present text is a faithful transcription of a Syriac manuscript found by L. de Dieu among the papers bequeathed to the University of Leyden by Scaliger. The manuscript was copies from an earlier text in Rome c. 1580, by one Caspar from Malabar.
