(A few leaves, mostly towards the end, lightly browned). 18th-century red French morocco, sides with wide gilt border incorporating drawer-handle tools, scrolls, fans, leaf sprays and flowers, spine in 7 compartments, one with green morocco lettering-piece, the others lavishly tooled in gilt with central floral device, surrounded by leaf-sprays, stars and lozenges, gilt edges (extremities very lightly rubbed, rear cover a little scuffed, small stain on front cover). Provenance : Joseph-Anne Louvart de Pontigny (1740-1818; lettered in gilt at foot of spine) -- ROBERT HOE (bookplate).
