Beschreibung:

Bertil Vallien (Swedish, b. 1938) for Kosta Boda Glass, Sweden. Blue glass head with a Y-shaped addition mounted to a plinth. Signed twice and inscribed along the underside "Kosta Boda Unique 8BVAVN 019187." The innovative fusion of light and color make Bertil Vallien's sculptures among the most celebrated in Europe. Raised in Sweden, Vallien was drawn to the creative freedom of art and inspired by the textural possibilities of clay. He studied ceramics at the Konstfack School of Arts, Crafts, and Design and then spent time in Los Angeles, where his glass art won a prize in the Young Americans competition for his stoneware entry Family on Whale. After returning to Sweden, a fascination with maximizing glass’s ability to absorb light became his passion. He’s known best for his boat forms, faces, and heads. Bertil Vallien's sculptures are part of important museum collections and have garnered prestigious awards, including the Visionary Award from New York's Museum of Arts and Design. (With stand) Height: 71 in x width: 13 1/4 in x depth: 13 3/4 in. Condition Request Condition Report The item is in good condition in general. Due to the original design of the item, it is difficult to discern whether there are dents or oxidation or original; however, it appears that there are no visible cracks or other damages that alter the overall appearance of the item. When inspected under UV light, there is a 1-inch area that fluoresces to the left side of the face. Wear to the underside, consistent with age and use.
