Bernard Buffet ha scelto di dipingere luoghi che non avremmo avuto motivo di fotografare. La pittura era necessaria per farceli notare: perché, non sapendo nulla di loro, il nostro occhio sceglie costantemente ciò che nota, ciò che conserva. [...] Il giovane Buffet ci introduce in un mondo ordinario, dove tutto, anche la prospettiva, è così plausibile che, in fondo, potrebbe non averlo composto lui. [...] Bernard Buffet riassume, ed è forse questo che gli conferisce questa semplicità elementare.
Bernard Buffet chose to paint places that one would have no reason to photograph. The act of painting was needed in order to make us notice them: because, as we know nothing about them, our eye constantly chooses what it notices, what it retains. [...] - young Buffet introduces us to an ordinary world, where everything, even - perspective, is so life-like that after all, he may not have composed it. [...] Bernard Buffet summarises, and this is perhaps what gives him this elementary simplicity.
