The People's Party, also known as the Populist Party, was a left-wing grassroots party mostly comprised of angry farmers. It lasted a short time, from 1892 until being absorbed by the Democratic Party in 1896. Former Major General Benjamin Butler, a colorful and controversial character, was elected governor of Massachusetts in 1882 with Democratic and Greenback Party support. He ran for President on the Greenback ticket in 1884, but the election was subsequently won by Democratic candidate Grover Cleveland. Condition: Toning of the paper, a small cases of spotting, the right bottom corner is missing as well as a few portions at the top margin.
