Title set in a scrolling ribbon above the upper border, imprint and subtitle in armorial cartouche surmounted by a scalebar and dividers, galleons and sailing ships decorate the sea, graticule border. (Trimmed along upper edge to plate mark, narrow margins, lightly soiled, a few marginal holes not affecting image.) A FINE REISSUE TAKEN FROM THE EARLIEST MAP OF TUSCANY. This map derives from Bell'Armato's Chorographia Tusciae . The present map was first issued by Claudio Duchetti in Rome in 1558 (Tooley 570), and this imprint is still present here. The 1558 issue was a restrike of the he first engraved copy of Bell'Armato's 1536 woodcut map, which had been anonymously printed for the first time in 1554 with the title La Toscana (Tooley 569). The map is an improvement on the original, with extra names and corrections to the coastline and the Appenines.
