On y a joint une description de la Sibrie. [Translated from English by M.-A. Eidous]. Paris: chez Robin, 1766. 3 volumes, 12 (167 x 92mm). Half-titles. Engraved folding map. (Small tears to folds of map, vol. II lacks final ?blank Q2.) Contemporary French mottled calf, spine gilt (bookplates somewhat crudely removed with slight damage to endpapers). FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH, translated by Marc-Antoine Eidous. The work describes the Scottish-born traveller's journeys in the service of the Czar between 1715 and about 1737. Bell eventually returned to Scotland in about 1746 and died in 1780 aged 89. The first edition (in English) was published by the Foulis Press, Glasgow, 1763, in 2 volumes, quarto. Cf. Brunet I,742.
