Norman (bookplate; his sale part II, Christie's New York, 15 June 1998, lot 284A). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Bell on the front free endpaper: "From the Author." Bell most likely presented this copy of his last work to the ophthalmologist William MacKenzie who provided the classic description of the symptomatology of glaucoma in his Practical Treatise on the Diseases of the Eye (1830); the third essay of Bell's work is on squinting.
