[Belgium - Netherlands] GUICCIARDINI, Lodovico Omnium Belgii, sive Inferioris Germaniae, regionum descriptio [...]. Recens ex idiomate Italico [...] Regnero V. Zirizaei interprete [...]. Amsterdam, G. Janssonius [= W.J. Blaeu], Folio: [incl. engr. title]-315-[pp.; (of pl. (repairs to the title and map of Brussels, Lochum, etc., tear in map of Ypres, central folding split in underpart of many pl., dampstained and rather heavily browned in the text). Contemp. vellum covers with blind-tooled medallion (rebacked, covers used). 1st Latin Blaeu edition (1st It. ed.: 1567), offering the reader an eloquent description of the 16th-c. towns in the Low Countries. Reinier Telle (1558-translated and updated the text of the Italian Plantin edition. This edition has, for the first time, a description on Gouda included. With the engr. title and engr. reprinted from Blaeu's Dutch edition. All plates mentioned in the "Index" are present, except for the pl. of Limbourg (Guicc. Ill. and Amst.-Stadhuis/Waag (Guicc. Ill. 46). Also incl. is the plan of Rheinberg (Guicc. Ill. which is rarely present. Supplementary to the index are the rare views of Amsterdam Beurs (Guicc. Ill. by J.C. Visscher (and Dunkerque-2 (Guicc. Ill. 73). This modest copy of Blaeu's last folio edition is interesting because of these rare plates present. Only the rare view of Middelburg-Stadhuis (Guicc. Ill. 61), not mentioned in the index, is also not present. Ref. Guicciardini illustratus Prov. "Jacobus Vanderbeke" (ms. entry). - "Babellotte de Bruxelles" (id.).
