Beschreibung:

.58 caliber. 39" round barrel secured by three rounded screw clamping bands. SN: NSN. Blued and color casehardened finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading percussion rifle musket. Lock marked in two lines forward of the hammer D-{Anchor}-C of O.P. Drissen & Company of Liège. Left breech with Liège commercial proof mark and barrel forward of bolster with Liège Perron mark. D-{Anchor}-C marks throughout on many of the components of the gun. Retains the correct later production 1853 pattern 1,000-yard ladder rear sight, musket style combination front sight and socket bayonet lug and both sling swivels. Bands retain their doughnut shaped protectors on the ends of the screws. Retains a full-length Enfield pattern ramrod with threads at the end. OP Drissen is best known to Civil War arms collectors as the manufacturer of the Belgian Light Minie Rifle known to collectors as the "Brazilian Light Minie Rifle" of which several thousand were imported by the US during the Civil War. It is likely that at least some of Drissen's Pattern 1853 copies were imported as well, as most inspectors and ordnance officials would have been unable to determine that this was a Belgian made gun and not an English made one. A very nice example of a rarely seen Enfield rifle musket variant. Condition: Fine. Retains some of the original finish oxidizing to plum brown from blue, with thinning wear and a streaky appearance the is actually quite attractive. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional, very good bore is moderately oxidized with strong rifling. Stock about fine with scattered bumps, dings and mars and an old thumbnail sized chip out between the middle and upper bands on the reverse of the forend.
