Modern half calf, uncut, original paper label to volume II preserved at end. FIRST EDITION. Volume I consists of letters from Venice, Rome, Naples and elsewhere on two journeys made in 1780, and 1782, originally published in Dreams, Waking Thoughts and Incidents , 1783. Among other corrections, names have been inserted in the letters instead of initials. The Spanish and Portuguese letters in volume II were taken verbatim from Beckford's diary for March 1787 to January 1788. Chapman Beckford p. 62; Pine-Coffin 780. BRYDGES, Sir Egerton. Recollections of Foreign Travel, on Life, Literature and Self-Knowledge . London: for Longman [etc.], 1825. 2 volumes, 8°. Half-titles. (Light spotting.) Modern calf-backed boards, uncut. FIRST EDITION. The letters, written in Paris, include accounts of the author's travels in Italy in 1819-21, with special reference to Naples. Pine-Coffin 819 1 7 . DICKENS, Charles. Pictures from Italy. The vignette illustrations on wood by Samuel Palmer . London: for the author by Bradbury & Evans, 1846. 2 volumes, 8°. 4 wood-engraved illustrations by Palmer (Light browning throughout.) Modern boards. FIRST EDITION. Dickens's journey to North Italy was made in 1844-45. Eight of the sketches originally appeared in The Daily News from January 21, through March 11, 1846, under the title "Travelling Letters.
