VG (4.0). Light spine stress and rubs, 1/4" split at top spine, nicks to top edges of covers, tiny creased nick to right edge of front cover, some edge creasing and toning to back cover, bottom staple slightly pulled. Cream to off-white pages. Cover: Irv Novick. Art: Tony Mortellaro, Eugene Hughes, Hy Fleishman. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. Only two reported sales in any grade. A 3.5 sold for $199 in March 2022. Lowbrow Morse mag aimed geared towards soldiers and impressionable kids soon to be of enlistment age. The crudity and nakedly propagandistic bent of war mags drew the ire of Malcolm Kildale, a comic book writer and artist who wrote a letter to Dr. Wertham expressing support for his anti-comics campaign. According to Kildale, "I was in the Navy and watched comic books sink lower and lower in editorial taste. The books were slanted at men in the armed forces... the publishers are catering to adults with low mentality." — See Paul S. Hirsch's Pulp Empire: The Secret History of Comic Book Imperialism. University of Chicago Press: 2021, p. 86. Consignments welcome for PBA's Fall 2022 Comic Book sale. Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age and Silver Age comics, original art, vintage comic-related photos and ephemera sought. Send inquiries to [email protected] . A limited edition of 100 softcover and 6 hardcover catalogues are available. 140 pages, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcovers $40, dust-jacketed hardcover with limitation plate $200. To order, contact [email protected] .
