Bat-cyclopedia: "In October-November 1951 Batman and Robin apprehend JINX BOLEY; battle the JOKER; and meet BRANE TAYLOR." — Michael L. Fleisher, The Encyclopedia of Comic Book Heroes Vol. 1: Batman. Macmillan: 1976, p. 123. Details: Emerging from a globe of gleaming steel, Brane Taylor, the Batman of the future, visits present-day Robin to request his aid. It seems that future Robin was injured in battle with evil Yerxa, and future Batman needs present-day Robin's help to defeat his futuristic foe, who controls a large supply of vulcanite, a rare element used to make deadly weapons. Eager to discover how Yerxa got his mitts on so much vulcanite, present-day Robin and future Batman go undercover on the prison planet Vulcan where the precious ore is mined. They discover that the prison inmates have been camouflaging the ore as common surface rock and carting it off in plain sight. This discovery brings present-day Robin and future Batman into conflict with the Dome, a mind-reading ally of Yerxa, who discovers their true identities. Though the Dome is killed in the ensuing battle, Yerxa reveals the Dynamic Duo's secret identities to the authorities. Future Batman brings present-day Batman to the future, creating the illusion that Brane Taylor and future Batman are not the same person, thus preserving his secret identity. The DC UNIVERSE COLLECTION comprises over 40,000 comic books, including a copy of every single DC comic published for retail sale from 1934 to 2014. The collection was amassed by British music producer Ian Levine over the course of several decades, and it's been hailed as the single greatest collecting accomplishment in comic book history. This collection served as the basis for former DC Comics president Paul Levitz's monumental book 75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking, published by Taschen in 2017. PBA is proud to present this epic collection in a series of themed sales over the next two years. To join the DC Universe Collection notifications list, contact pba@pbagalleries.com.
