(Lacking half-titles, text leaves B1-F4, Q1-R4 and a 1 folding chart in vol.II spotted, text leaves 3D1-3H2 in vol.I browned, small tears to outer blank margin of the first hand-coloured map in vol.II.) Contemporary speckled calf, spines gilt with green morocco lettering-pieces (spines rubbed, joints split). Provenance : George Hay Dawkins Pennant (of Penrhyn Castle, d.1840, armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Barrow 'accompanied an expedition from Cape Town to Graaff-Reinet, and another to Namaqualand, and he gives an excellent description of the country traversed, particularly with regard to the botany and zoology of those regions' (Mendelssohn).
