Collection of letters from the papers of the bankers Clayton & Morris, comprising an autograph letter by Frances Teresa Stuart, Duchess of Richmond, 'La Belle Stuart', to Sir Robert Clayton, asking for the return of a unicorn horn taken by her sister-in-law ("...I am told that my sister O Brien has taken away the Unecorns horn, I suppose you lett her have it only to look on whereby to satisfy her curiosity, & that you will send for it againe...") and offering if necessary to buy it "as it was prized", docketed 1673; with other letters to Clayton or his partners by the ironmaster and East India merchant Sir John Lewys [1670], Lady Abergavenny (1679), Fernando Davys in Enniskillen (1678), John Fowke of Leghorn (1688, about slave deaths, sales of buffalo hides and disturbances in Algiers) and John Hancock agent for Clayton Morris in Gloucester (1667); plus a letter by Anne Foley, née North, of the ironmaster family to her brother Francis North, Lord Chief Justice [1674-76] ("...we are all extremely pleased the children may go to my mother who seartainly is the best Governes... the plate and chene is sent up but tis best not to unpack the chene till Mrs Lane coms because twill be hard for any elce to doe it without breaking tis put up by selfe in the least box..."); address panels, 8 pages, 'Clayton MSS' stamps and the usual typed identifying dockets, minor browning, dust-staining, repairs etc., folio and small 4to, 1667-1688
