Beschreibung:

serial number 11084 (ca 1902). An exceptional instrument in a fine Classical Revival art case of satinwood with cross-banded mahogany trim, brass mounts, and elaborate marquetry inlay. Approximately 39" high x 60.25" wide x 106" long; with a matching bench, 20" high x 36.5" wide x 19" deep. Accompanying the piano is a 1962 article from the Cincinnati Enquirer that celebrates the centennial of the Baldwin Piano Company of Cincinnati. Illustrated in the article are several of the company's premier examples, including the piano offered here, which won the Grand Prize at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Dwight Hamilton Baldwin (1821-1899) opened his music store in Cincinnati in 1862. By 1890, Baldwin realized that he could expand his business by manufacturing quality pianos. 1891 saw his first upright introduced, followed by its first grand piano in 1895, both designed by John Macy. One year after Baldwin's death, one of his company's pianos was awarded the Grand Prix at the Paris Exhibition, catapulting the company into the circle of America's preeminent piano makers. Under the leadership of Lucien Wulson and, later, his son and grandson, Baldwin pianos saw a continue increase in popularity amongst performers, including Aaron Copeland, Liberace, and Bruce Hornsby. AVAILABLE FOR PREVIEW ON FRIDAY, JUNE 16 FROM 12:00 NOON TO 3:00. PLEASE CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT. Provenance: Ex Collection Marge and Charles Schott Condition: Retains an old, crazed finish, minor veneer defects. Works recently restored, detailed condition report is available upon request.
